Oxford Postpartum Medical Practice

Oxford Postpartum Medical Practice (OPPMP) is an independent medical clinic, providing healthcare for women with non-emergency postpartum health problems who gave birth at least 7 weeks ago.

Many conditions can develop as a result of pregnancy or giving birth, and ongoing health problems can also be made worse by pregnancy or birth.

The focus of most healthcare systems in the postpartum period is concentrated on problems resulting directly from the birth, and occurring immediately afterwards. However, there are many conditions which can develop as a result of pregnancy or giving birth, and ongoing health problems may also get worse or change at this time. These post-partum health problems may include all body systems, and can start months or years later.

Some of these health problems include:

  • Prolapses
  • Poorly-healing wounds
  • Mental health conditions
  • Musculoskeletal problems and joint pain
  • Bladder and bowel problems
  • Skin problems
  • Changes to the symptoms of polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (polycystic ovarian syndrome)
  • Altered menstrual symptoms and patterns
  • Alterations to immune-mediated conditions
  • Metabolic changes

Many women will experience a variety of these, and each individual may have a different combination of symptoms. Common to all women with postpartum medical problems however, is that these issues can impact greatly on quality of life and future health.

Book a consultation

Many women experience a variety of these problems after giving birth, and OPPMP provides personalised consultations with time to discuss postpartum health concerns in depth.

This allows a clinical assessment of the problems and how they might be linked, as well as discussion of up-to-date treatments and possible further interventions.

All the appointments are with the founding doctor, Dr Catherine Quarini.
